If you have been to at least one Florida convention for at least one day in your lifetime, would you mind taking this survey?

It's for my undergrad Honors Thesis on anime convention culture, and I need a decent amount of data to work with by Thursday. Thanks!

10/10/10 08:11 pm - lethalpepsi - My first hello

Hello everyone,

This is my first Livejournal post in a long time and saw this group so decided to become a member. ^^ Been looking for people who love anime and cosplaying as much as I do, to hang out with so I hope this is the perfect place to find them. :D

I'm 25 years old and been into anime since I was a little girl. Sailor Moon was my first anime and I have been a fan ever since. I'm also a bit of an artist so I hope to put aside my fear and sell some art at the conventions in the Tampa/Orlando area in 2011.  Was also wondering if fellow artists who have gone to the conventions in those cities would mind giving me any tips.

Would also love to find cosplaying groups. Cosplaying is awesome but it sucks to do it alone as the past people I been with don't find dressing up to be interesting. :/

I live in Lakeland area (A town between Tampa and Orlando) and hope to be able to meet up with people who live in or near my area! I admit I am shy but willing to come out of my shell to find awesome friends. ^^

My page if any artist wants to check out and give me some tips! http://lethalpepsi.deviantart.com/

Take care!!

PS. I plan on going to Shadocon on Nov..to check out the art alley. I won't be cosplaying due to money issues but I thought of going to enjoy a day of fun. Would anyone be going????

Hey, all!
Um, lol, Idk what to say. I'm from the Venice area (just south of Sarasota, if you haven't heard of it!) and I love anime and manga and all aspects of Japanese culture :)

A few things I'm hoping this community can help me with:
I'm DESPERATELY looking for an artist to collaborate with to submit manga to publishers. I've been writing all my life, and always wanted to become a writer. Since I could never stick to finishing a novel, I tried writing manga scrips and it's been great, but I can't draw. So if anyone's interested (or knows someone, be they in FL or not) gimme a shoutout and if possible a DA link or something :)

Secondly, my friends and I are already planning on cosplaying as Naruto characters next year at Metrocon 2011 (or wherever the wind takes us~) and are hoping someone might have some cheap cosplay stuff for sale.
We're so far looking for:
Akatsuki jackets
Shoes (blue sandals and Akatsuki shoes sizes 8-10)
Kakashi cosplay (anything helps!)
Headbands (leaf village, crossed out leaf, crossed out sand)
Weapons pouches

Oh, and if there are any cute otaku boys in the area heheh ;P

Um, anyway, if anyone can help with art or stuff, that'd be great :D
Moving on, I've been into anime since I was about 12, so for 7 years. My first manga was Chobits and my first anime (other than stuff that I didn't know was anime: hamtaro, Sailor Moon, etc) was Mahoromatic. I have a lot of series I love, so I don't really know my favorites. I went to my first convention a few weeks ago, Metrocon 2010 in Tampa. It was AWESOME! I cosplayed as Dokruo-chan and it was a hit :) If anyone here was there and remembers me, drop a comment!
Me as Dokuro-chan~Collapse )
I enjoy all sorts of series. Everything from Sugar, A Little Snow Fairy to Death Note and everything between and beyond. I'm a yaoi fangirl at heart, but you know... I love all the Miyazaki movies (at least the ones I've seen) and another great non-series movie I love is Origin: Spirits of the Past. I highly reccomend it. My favorite voice actors are Vic Mignogna and Grey Ayres, and on the matter of dub v. sub, it really just depends on the series to me. Like, I love Vic and Greg, but I thought the Ouran dub was awful. Meanwhile Negima and FMA were really great dubs! So, yeah.

Well, that's enough of an introduction for me. If anyone can or wants to try and help me in any way, or wants to see if we can become friends, just say so here :)

9/19/08 05:16 am - motenai_ronin - Anime and Game Souvenirs and Gifts

Hey all, I live in the Sarasota / Venice area and after going to college in NYC, I've come back and am missing the literal plethora of import stores, gift shops ,and souvenir stands all across the city. So I was hoping if anyone knows local stops where I could pick up stuff like plushes, memoribilia, etc such as decorative items, stuff other than the norm, stuff like towels, pillowcases, car accessories (ie steering wheel covers, seat belt "teddies") with a cutesy anime-otaku flair.

The internet is fine, but shipping prices can be a great pain in the a*** and I just want a place I can do some shopping around.
Thanks and I hopes to get to know peeps like you.

ps, I'm an 20 yo asian male, stocky build, an endomorph (look it up) and currently looking for a similarly aged woman of asian descent (rolls eyes at himself)  He is currently trying to get himself situated.

Ta-ta.
